Black Opals

Queen of Opals

Australia is not only the country with the largest reserves of opals yet to be mined, but also the country with the most numerous varieties of opals. In New South Wales, in the mining fields of Lightning Ridge, and nearby fields of Coocoran, Grawin and Glengarry you will find the incomparable Black Opals.

On rare occasions Black Opals have been found in South Australia (Mintabie), Mexico (Magdalena), USA (Nevada) and Indonesia.

Because of their rarity and fascinating beauty Black Opals are the unchallenged queens – not only among the opals. Black Opals are so rare and unique that studies have shown that when compared to an average one carat diamond a Black Opal of average quality and size is at least 1000 times rarer than a diamond.
