Flamingo Opal - Rose Dream
A Pink White Gem from the Heart of Idaho
Flamingo Opal is an opal variety from southeastern Idaho, from the Spencer Opal Mine in Clark County.
The deposit is located at about 2500m altitude in the Rocky Mountains, about 100km west of Yellowstone National Park.
The fascinating Flamingo Opal is a stone with different color zones. Different shades of pink take turns with opal layers in beige and cream-white shades.
Small traces of organic compounds which are embedded inpalygorskite (magnesium aluminum silicate) cause subtle nuances of the various pink shades, from pale pink (angelskin) to the intense dark pink.
