Purple Dream

Purple Gem from Mexico

The Amethyst Opal is one of the most unusual opal varieties in the kingdom of opals.

This opal comes from the mountains near the village of Zacatecas in the Mexican state of the same name. The exact mining location is known to a few people only.

The rough opal is found in up to 10 cm thick veins between other sedimentary rocks. They consist mainly of opal, but are often mixed with other minerals such as chalcedony.

The purple hues, often mysteriously dark, but also varying to a bright lavender or violet, are the basic colors of this opal, comparable to the colors of the amethyst, hence the name.
